What to pack for your holiday to Thailand?

March 28, 2024

Preparing your suitcase for a Thai holiday is an adventure in itself! Thailand is a country where many surprises await, in addition to fabulous beaches, fascinating culture and tasty food. The key word here is ‘minimalism’, but don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you’ll have to sacrifice comfort or style.

Minimalism in packing

Let’s start with the bottom line – luggage. Although your heart tells you to “take everything, just in case”, practice and experience dictate: less is more. Thailand is a place where you really don’t need much to enjoy your holiday. Bear in mind that many airlines, especially low-cost ones, may charge extra for excess baggage. Hence, our advice: rely on hand luggage.

Clothes

When choosing your wardrobe, follow the principle of ‘comfort and functionality’. Clothes made of airy materials, such as merino wool or bamboo, will be a hit. Here’s what to bring:

  • A couple of lightweight T-shirts,
  • Shorts, perfect for hot days,
  • Long trousers – useful for evening outings or trips out of town,
  • Comfortable shoes that will stand up well to Thai paths.

And if you’re planning to visit temples, be sure to dress appropriately to cover your shoulders and knees.

First aid kit

Travelling to Thailand is also an adventure for our health, so it’s a good idea to carry a small first aid kit. Don’t forget plasters, burn remedies, painkillers or diarrhoea medicine. Let it be our little refuge of safety.

Travel accessories

Thailand is a modern country, but a few travel gadgets will certainly make life easier. A power bank, a phone with charger, a PDF guidebook and even good-quality headphones are our ‘must-haves’ on the packing list.

Health preparation

Ideally, we should start our health preparations a few weeks before we leave – from visiting the doctor to finding out about recommended vaccinations to registering with the Odyssey system. This is our health ABC before a long-distance trip.

Visa

If you’re going to Thailand for less than 30 days – great news, Poles are exempt from visa requirements. If planning a longer stay, don’t forget your visa!

Protection from the sun and rain

Sunscreen and a light rain jacket are our backups for the vagaries of the Thai climate. It’s better to be prepared!

Documents and finances

A passport, copies of it and an international driving licence (if you intend to drive) are the basics. Also, don’t forget to notify your bank about your trip to avoid unexpected blockades on your cards.

Insurance and communication

Travel insurance is our peace of mind, and an unlocked phone is a window to the world. It’s also worth taking out adequate health insurance to travel with more confidence.

Electronics and socket adaptation

The variety of electrical socket standards in Thailand may surprise us, so a universal plug adapter is an absolute must-have. It will allow us to use our electronic devices without any problems.

Summary

Packing for Thailand is more than simply putting together a suitcase – it is preparing for an unforgettable adventure. By keeping minimalism, convenience and practicality in mind, you can enjoy all that Thailand has to offer without too many worries. And with a little planning and heeding our advice, your trip will not only be safe, but most importantly, full of unforgettable experiences. Thailand awaits, and now you know how to pack for it. See you on the tropical beaches!
