As keen travellers and thrill-seekers, we simply couldn’t miss out on the Polish theme park scene. After all, it’s developed really dynamically in recent years, offering world-class attractions! Poland has become a true home for impressive rollercoasters, attracting crowds of adrenaline junkies. So, let’s find out where to look for these biggest and fastest giants! What does the biggest rollercoaster in the world look like? They are often massive steel or wooden structures, soaring high above the ground, ready to deliver unforgettable experiences.

Energylandia in Zator – the kingdom of adrenaline awaits

Our adventure naturally begins in Zator, home to Energylandia – easily the largest theme park in Poland. It opened in 2014 and has been constantly expanding its offering ever since, which now includes, get this, an astonishing 123 attractions! The park is divided into six fascinating themed zones: Fairytale Land (Bajkolandia), Family Zone (Strefa Familijna), Extreme Zone (Strefa Ekstremalna), Dragon’s Castle (Smoczy Gród), Water Park, and the newest addition, Aqualantis.

Each of these zones, as you’d expect, offers a different kind of entertainment, from gentle carousels for the little ones to extreme rollercoasters – and it’s these that are the main focus of our journey today. The park also looks after guests’ comfort, offering 62 food outlets with, it must be said, quite varied cuisine (I remember once looking for something light to eat after a series of G-force rides and there was plenty of choice!).

Zadra – a wooden giant that breaks world records

In Dragon’s Castle, probably the most spectacular zone, reigns Zadra – a ride that became a legend immediately after opening. It’s the world’s tallest wooden rollercoaster, although for precision, as experts note, it’s worth adding that it’s a hybrid structure, cleverly combining wood with steel elements. It’s called a hyper coaster, and for good reason! Its parameters are simply impressive: the carriages plummet downwards at a 90-degree drop angle, reaching a speed of 121 km/h. It’s an experience comparable to a vertical drop, or even jumping from a really great height! Zadra is recognised as the tallest wooden rollercoaster in the world and simultaneously the tallest wooden rollercoaster in Europe. Zadra confirmed its global recognition in 2020, winning 1st place in the prestigious World of Parks Awards ranking. Now we move to the Extreme Zone, where Hyperion awaits us. Often, as I hear from many theme park fans, it’s their absolute favourite. This mega coaster at Energylandia is currently the second tallest and second fastest rollercoaster in Europe. What is its height and what is its maximum speed? These parameters make it one of the most exciting attractions we can find on our continent. Hyperion, which opened in Zator, immediately captured the hearts of extreme thrill-seekers. I remember seeing it from a distance for the first time, thinking to myself, is it even real that such a structure could stand in Poland?

Speed Water Coaster – aquatic fury that also breaks records

Still within Energylandia, we visit the Water Park – a zone full of water fun which, surprisingly, also has its own rollercoaster record-holder. The Speed Water Coaster is the tallest and fastest water coaster in the world. It is located, of course, in Zator, within Energylandia. An impressive height of 60 metres and a speed reaching 110 km/h, combined with a maximum inclination angle of 45 degrees, guarantee unique sensations and, equally important on hot days, a good dose of cooling down. The Speed Water Coaster is the tallest water rollercoaster in the entire world. The G-forces accompanying this attraction are equal to 3g. Interestingly, the Water Park zone also includes Big Milk Water Park, where you can simply relax, and Tropical Fun with 14 slides and a huge water playground, Exotic Island. Although it’s “only” a water coaster, it delivers emotions comparable to those on the “dry” giants.

The sensations are often compared, as I heard from one of the operators, to those experienced in an F16 fighter jet. Mayan had its moment in the spotlight in 2015 when it was the tallest rollercoaster in Poland, measuring 33 metres. Although this height record has since been broken, it remains the undisputed record-holder for the number of inversions.

Moya Formuła – magnetic launch and dizzying speed

The Speed Water Coaster is the tallest water rollercoaster in the entire world. This is strong evidence that innovation and record-breaking solutions aren’t reserved only for “dry” rides, and a Polish park has managed to create something truly globally unique. Although you might come off it wet, the experience is well worth it!

Lech Coaster is one of the most important highlights of Legendia in Chorzów. It’s a rollercoaster 40 metres high with a speed of 95 km/h, themed around the legend of Lech. It was very well received internationally – during the European Amusement Show, it was recognised as the second best ride in Europe, right behind Spain’s Red Force. The German organisation Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks even named it the best rollercoaster of 2017, which is a truly significant achievement! Although it was later dethroned by newer and faster roller coasters from Energylandia, it still maintains its position as the third fastest rollercoaster in Poland, surpassed only by Hyperion and Speed Water Coaster. The emphasis on safety is highlighted by the fact that Lech Coaster, like others, undergoes a series of tests before each use.

Diabelska Pętla – a classic of its kind with a new, dark face

At Legendia, you’ll also find Diabelska Pętla (Devil’s Loop). This rollercoaster has a history – it arrived at Śląskie Wesołe Miasteczko in 2007, having previously been known as Tornado. Diabelska Pętla is 20 metres high, and the track measures 335 metres in length. It accelerates to 70 km/h. Its unique feature, the only one of its kind in the world, is the double loop. Passengers can also ride backwards in the last car, which adds spice to the ride – it’s something you won’t experience everywhere! In the 2019 season, Diabelska Pętla changed its name and underwent modernisation, becoming the abode of Diabeł Boruta, the park’s main villain character. The rollercoaster was expected to open after 30th April 2019, and TÜV recommended, as is standard, additional test runs before its operation.

Other Legendia attractions – something for families with children too

The mentioned premiere of a special show on the lake, planned for Children’s Day, shows that the park considers various forms of entertainment, not just the extreme ones.
