Days Gone By: The History of This Place

The first plans to build huts in the area appeared, if I remember correctly, as early as 1928. This was thanks to the active members of the Polish Tatra Society from Krynica. It was then a wooden building, probably single-storey, but quickly, very quickly, it became such a local tourist attraction. The first managers? They were Jan and Maria Kamyk. In 1942, Jan Kamyk was arrested and subsequently deported to the concentration camp in Oświęcim (Auschwitz), from where, sadly, he never returned. Maria Kamyk also had to leave the premises, for obvious reasons. Later, in 1943, the hut and all of the Kamyks’ possessions were taken over by a certain Rudolf Mickler, who was then the mayor of Krynica. In 1944, the hut became the scene of a rather dramatic round-up. German units were trying to capture Polish partisans. Fighting broke out there, as a result of which the Polish partisans managed to disarm the Germans present in the building.
